This project forms part of an award-winning development by Octagon Developments in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. As the show home, this was the first of fifteen plots, and our brief on this occasion was to create a kitchen with simple linear forms in a glamorous open-plan ‘super room’, incorporating a variety of luxurious textures and finishes.
Our client selected a Zeyko Horizon kitchen in Chocolate Pine with stainless steel plinths and 50mm Caesarstone worksurfaces in Desert Limestone. The kitchen is ‘handleless’, a style that is currently enjoying a revival. The central island is fitted with stainless steel undermounted sinks, and drainer grooves are etched discreetly into the worksurface, which extends down either side of the island to the floor for a touch of luxury. A stunning contrast is achieved by the interplay between the dark cabinets and the substantial Caesarstone worksurfaces. This project coincides with the release of a number of new dark wood finishes by high-end kitchen furniture manufacturers.
However this kitchen is not just about glamour – it also contains a wide range of appliances, many of them integrated and therefore out of sight. A 90cm Gaggenau oven sits beneath the Siemens touch control hob and telescopic extractor hood. A built-in refrigerator is incorporated into the tall unit to the left of the run of units. A dishwasher is integrated into the central island beneath the sinks, and a pair of warming drawers have been included underneath the coffee machine and single oven.
We are delighted with the finished room, and invite you to read the feature on this project in the September 2006 edition of the Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Magazine.
