This challenging project called for a comfortable cooking and eating space for two clients with electric wheelchairs, at one end of a spacious living room.
Our clients selected a Dinedor Cherry kitchen by Access Matters, with matching Cherry Veneer plinth, coving and exposed side panels. All pull-out drawers and cabinets are fitted with soft-close runners so that they close smoothly and gently without trapping fingers. Practical brushed stainless steel 'Boss' handles add a modern touch, and the worktops are manufactured from solid Corian, which provides a hygienic, seamless worksurface and fully integrated drainer grooves beside the sink.
The AEG ovens have side-hinged doors, and telescopic runners that keep oven shelves from tipping. A Dish Drawer by Fisher & Paykel is a practical pull-out appliance; ideal for access by a wheelchair user, and the stainless steel canopy extractor hood has a remote control for easy access and full control.
Midi-height units have been used in this kitchen to give the space an 'unfitted' look, which sits well beside the living room. A pensinsula table has been added to the scheme to allow for informal dining and entertaining close to the food preparation area. This inviting space is very complimentary to the rest of the house, and has provided an attractive and practical kitchen with plenty of accessible storage. |
