The brief for this project was to provide a multi-occupational food technology kitchen at The Munster Centre in Fulham. Four kitchens were supplied in total, one of which needed to be fully accessible, and made of durable materials to stand up to the wear and tear of constant use.

Our designer selected a hardwearing high pressure laminate door from the Access Matters range, in a soft blue, with contrasting wood-effect edge and wood-effect carcase. Work surfaces were designed in resilient dark blue Corian with contrasting white ‘waterfall’ edges to contain spills and also to provide optimum visual contrast for visually impaired users. The wet area was designed in Corian with waterfall edges on all four sides, a rise and fall mechanism for flexibility, and fascia mounted controls for easy access. Similarly, the hob area was designed in Corian, with waterfall edges and a rise and fall mechanism for adjustment to any height to cater to the needs of users with restricted growth, wheelchair users, or those with a visual impairment who would find a higher worktop useful. Midi height cabinets have been used elsewhere to bring storage areas within the reach of all users. This hard-working, practical design is packed with special features – see more pictures of this kitchen at the Access Matters web site: amtak.co.uk.

“This first-rate kitchen is a major boost for our food studies courses and our adult education service … the kitchen is a delight for everyone who uses it.”
