The installation of this kitchen was part of a larger project, to adapt a bright and sunny ground floor apartment for comfortable accessible living.
Our client selected a Character Oak kitchen from the Access Matters range, with warm honeyed tones, and plenty of natural knots and figuring in the grain of the wood to provide interest and character. Corian worktops with a raised edge at the front and small upstand to the rear of the surface contain spills. Corian provides a hygienic and stylish finish that is warmer to the touch than granite, and very easy to keep clean. It is also impervious to water and therefore the best material to use in the sink area – it also means that the sink can be manufactured to the precise depth required by each client, allowing maximum bowl depth in each instance.
We recommended stainless steel AEG appliances for this project, and a concealed Elica extractor hood with remotely situated controls for ease of access, above an induction hob. Induction hobs are much safer in use than other styles of hob, and can also be fitted into the depth of a worksurface, providing maximum knee space. This feature is illustrated well in this particular kitchen. Our client has added a Myson Kickspace heater to the design, which fits neatly into the kitchen plinth (far right) and provides a little extra warmth at the touch of a button. The controls are remotely sited again to make access easier.
Amtico flooring in Sedimentary Sandstone Light has been laid brick style to provide an easy-care, non-slip surface to the floor. Note that there are no voids either beneath the units, or above the wall units in this kitchen. Plinths have been fitted throughout to keep cleaning at floor level to a minimum. Ceiling infills have also been fitted, to ensure that dust cannot gather in inaccessible areas.
Another stylish accessible kitchen from the Design Matters team incorporating a wide range of sophisticated features. |
