This striking kitchen was designed for Richmond College in Twickenham, where a substantial kitchen area was required for students to prepare meals for the canteen next door. The students on this catering course have a wide range of abilities and are trained by preparing and serving meals each day for the canteen, and then organising the cleanup of the kitchen area. This develops skills vital for the workplace.
Our client selected an Access Matters Wittney kitchen in White Laminate with a contrasting black PVC edge, black plinth and a combination of high-pressure laminate and Corian worksurfaces. We specified a combination of appliances to suit the requirements of the layout, and to satisfy safety concerns: A 5 zone Miele induction hob, a 2 zone AEG induction hob, two AEG single ovens, an AEG microwave oven, and a pair of Falmec stainless steel canopy extractors with remotely sited controls for ease of access. A commercial dishwasher was incorporated to help the students cope with quantities of washing up.
This well-lit space is packed with storage space and cooking facilities, and is flexible enough to allow students with a wide range of abilities to get the most out of this specialised catering course. Of particular note is the large rise and fall area on the right hand side of the kitchen, which is made from Corian and accommodates a shallow bowl sink, and hob. This height-adjustable area has raised edges on all four sides, containing spills, and is very hygienic and easy to clean. Perfect for a catering environment.
Our client is delighted with the outcome of this project, which brings course facilities into line with the DDA, and provides a stimulating and exciting space where students can practise and perfect new skills. |
